The Toyota Foundation was established in 1974 as a multi-purpose grant-making foundation by the Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) to commemorate the 40th anniversary of TMC's automobile production. The goal of the Foundation is to contribute toward the realization of a more people-oriented society and a resulting increase in human happiness.
The Toyota Foundation provides financial assistance to carry out projects in Japan and other countries, mainly in the developing world, that address timely issues in a variety of fields such as environmental sustainability, the improvement of social welfare, the advancement of education and scholarship, the strengthening of civil society, and the preservation of cultural heritage. Toyota Foundation-supported projects should adopt broad and open perspectives, enlist the creativity and talent of a diversity of people, and promise to make long-term and wide-ranging contributions to the societies in which the projects take place and to humankind in general.
