UNIVERSITI KEBANGSAAN MALAYSIA
Established on 18 May 1970 by an Act of Parliament, UKM started with three faculties, two decades later, it has seventeen. Today UKM has two campuses: one in Bangi and the other in Kuala Lumpur.
The Malay language continues to play an important role as medium of instruction, and as the expression of national culture and consciousness.
The mission of UKM is to strike the right balance between the opposite poles--the spiritual and the worldly, of theory and practice, which is also implicit in UKM's statement:
Full-time taught courses last for one semester of about four months. Each session consists of two semesters divided in the following time units:
First semester: May to September
Second semester: November to early March
Third semester: Mid-March to mid-May
