15 February 2025 | via Zoom
The Project CLASP meeting held on 15 February 2025 via Zoom convened leaders and representatives from historical and heritage societies across Southeast Asia to explore opportunities for collaboration and to lay the groundwork for a regional assembly of historical and heritage societies. The meeting brought together Mr. Clement Liang (Penang Heritage Trust, Malaysia), Mr. Chua Yaw Chiang (Sarawak Heritage Society, Malaysia), Ms. Hasti Taerkat (Pan-Sumatra Network for Heritage Conservation, Indonesia), and Ms. Wenxin Gao (Singapore Heritage Society), with Dr. Maitrii Aung-Thwin and Dr. Maria Serena Diokno representing SEASREP. Dr. Diokno first introduces SEASREP’s Project CLASP (Community of Local Affiliates Studying the Past) to the different societies. The discussion highlighted the crucial role of these societies in safeguarding regional heritage, the importance of mapping and networking heritage societies, and the need to support knowledge-sharing and capacity-building initiatives. Participants reflected on the evolving challenges of heritage preservation, sustainable collaboration, and knowledge production in Southeast Asia, emphasizing the value of SEASREP’s facilitative role in connecting academic, professional, and grassroots initiatives through Project CLASP.
